Consul General Tang Rui Attends Sheffield Chinese New Year Celebration

On February 1, Consul General Tang Rui was invited to attend the 2025 Chinese New Year Celebration hosted by the Sheffield Chinese community. The event was attended by Sheffield Mayor Dunn, South Yorkshire's Mayor Coppard, Chinese community leader Zhang Yunlai, Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Chengdu Municipal People's Government Jiang Bin,and tens of thousands of local residents.

Consul General Tang Rui extended his New Year greetings to all attendees and highlighted the solid progress made in the sister-city relationship between Sheffield and Chengdu over the past year. As this year marks the 15th anniversary of the partnership between the two cities, he hoped that both sides would seize the opportunity presented by the stable and improving China-UK relations to host a series of celebratory events and enhance cooperation to a higher level. Mayor Dunn conveyed her New Year wishes in Mandarin, stating that the Spring Festival has become a shared celebration for all residents in Sheffield, contributing to the city’s vibrant multicultural society. She also expressed Sheffield's willingness to deepen its sister-city cooperation with Chengdu to support mutual development.

The event featured traditional performances such as high-pole lion dances and Sichuan opera face-changing, presented by troupes from Foshan and Chengdu, creating a festive and lively atmosphere. Before the celebration, Consul General Tang Rui and Director Jiang Bin met with Sheffield City Council Deputy Leader Belbin and other council members.
