On 17 October, Consul General Tang Rui met in Sheffield with Vice Lord-Lieutenant of South Yorkshire Anthony Pedder OBE DL, and had in-depth exchange of views on deepening regional cooperation between China and the UK.

Consul General Tang Rui said that South Yorkshire is not only an important iron and steel industry and coal production base in the UK, but also a region for economic transformation and development, with distinct advantages in automobile manufacturing, landscaping, aerospace, medical and pharmaceuticals. China is currently promoting high-quality economic development, and the two sides can carry out practical cooperation in related areas, in particularly in innovation and technology research. The purpose of his visit is to strengthen ties with all sectors in South Yorkshire and to promote regional cooperation between the two countries to achieve mutual benefits and win-win results.

Mr. Pedder briefed Consul General Tang about South Yorkshire's competitive industries and development vision, saying that he has been closely following China’s development model and remarkable achievements. It is worthwhile to learn from China on how to balance the relationship between government, market and enterprises. The China-UK relations should be based on trust and dialogue, and practical cooperation between the two sides will bring tangible benefits to both countries and promote their economic and social development.
