On 2 August, Consul General Tang Rui met with Paul Dennett, Deputy Mayor for Greater Manchester and Mayor of Salford in Salford Town Hall, and exchanged views on China-UK relations and on deepening regional cooperation.
Consul General Tang Rui said that in recent years, with the strong support of the City Council, Salford has achieved fruitful cooperation with China. The construction of the Chinese Streamside Garden at the Bridgewater Garden has made positive progress. The Middlewood Locks Old Town Renovation project, undertaken by the Beijing Construction Engineering Group International, has been progressing steadily. The UK Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, co-organized by the local Chinese community – Xinhua Chinese Association and the Salford City Council, is developing into one of the largest dragon boat races and cultural activities in the UK, and even in Europe. At present, China is solidly promoting and accelerating high-quality, green and low-carbon development and digital transformation. There are great potential and broad aspects for bilateral cooperation. The Consulate General is willing to continue to work closely with the Salford City Council to deepen bilateral cooperation for the benefit of the two peoples.
Paul Dennett welcomed Consul General Tang Rui to his new position, saying that the Salford City Council attaches great importance to the development of its relations with China, and is willing to continuously promote cooperation between the two sides to achieve greater development in various fields.
