On September 14, Consul General Tang Rui was invited to attend the first Manchester Mid-Autumn Festival Cultural Event. Manchester Deputy Lord Mayor Cllr Grimshaw and other politicians, leaders of local overseas Chinese communities, and tens of thousands of local residents participated.
In his remarks, Consul General Tang extended festival greetings to all sectors in the consular district.He stated that the Mid-Autumn Festival is a significant holiday for the Chinese people, carrying people's shared aspirations for family harmony and national prosperity. He expressed hope that through this cultural festival, everyone could immerse themselves in the charm of diverse Chinese festival culture. Attendees praised the event for its contributions to fostering multicultural development in the local community.
The event was jointly organized by the Manchester China Town Business Association and other local overseas Chinese communities. The venue was elaborately decorated with Chinese elements such as traditional stalls, lanterns, and moon symbols, making people feel as if they were in a bustling Tang or Song dynasty marketplace. The event featured classic interactive games like Pitch-pot (arrow throwing), gong hitting, and ceremonial drum striking, as well as folk music and dance performances, with the festive atmosphere reaching its climax during the ceremony of offering sacrifice to the moon. The eight-hour event provided local residents with a grand feast of Chinese culture.
