On November 5, 2024, Consul General Tang Rui visited the University of Huddersfield at the invitation of Professor Bob Cryan, the university's Vice-Chancellor and President. Counsellor Liang Yan accompanied during the visit.
Consul General Tang highlighted that the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee has underscored China's commitment to furthering high-level opening-up. He emphasized that China will better coordinate scientific and technological education with humanities education and encourage first-rate foreign universities of science and engineering to establish partner schools and programs in China. He commended the University of Huddersfield as an important institution in the Consular District, with notable strengths in precision instruments, engineering, and other fields. He expressed hope that the university would continue to deepen its exchange and cooperation with Chinese universities, and extended his appreciation to the university for providing Chinese students with quality education and thoughtful care.
Vice-Chancellor Cryan referenced President Xi Jinping’s call for advocating international people-to-people exchanges and cooperation, increasing understanding and friendship among peoples of all countries and jointly advancing the progress of human civilizations. He said that the University of Huddersfield shares this vision and has been consistently committed to promoting mutual exchanges between faculty and students from the UK and China. The university looks forward to working with the Consulate General to ensure a positive academic and living experience for Chinese students on campus and to deepen practical cooperation with Chinese universities.
Following the meeting, Consul General Tang engaged in a discussion with representatives of the Chinese student community at the university. He listened attentively to their reflections on studying and living in the UK. Tang also briefed the students on current developments in China, encouraging them to prioritize patriotism, academic achievement, personal safety, and unity. He expressed hope that they would complete their studies successfully and contribute to China’s development, while also becoming ambassadors of China-UK cultural exchanges.
