On November 4, Consul General Tang Rui met with Professor Chris Day, Chair of the Russell Group and Vice-Chancellor and President of Newcastle University. The two sides engaged in an in-depth discussion on strengthening cooperation between Chinese universities and both Newcastle University and the Russell Group. Counsellor Liang Yan from the Consulate, along with Professor Christopher Whitehead, Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global at Newcastle University, also attended the meeting.
Consul General Tang noted that education in both China and the UK has its own unique strengths, and cooperation aligns with the interests of both sides. He highlighted that the third plenary session of the 20th Communist Party of China Central Committee emphasized China’s commitment to advancing high-standard opening up in the education sector, and encouraging first-rate foreign universities of science and engineering to develop partner schools and programs in China. Tang commended Newcastle University for its strengths in fields like engineering and medicine and expressed hope that the university would continue to strengthen its practical cooperation with China.
Chris Day expressed that Newcastle University is dedicated to promoting UK-China exchanges in education, values international cooperation in scientific research, and welcomes Chinese students to pursue further studies at the university.
