On 11 August, Consul General Tang Rui met with Lord Mayor of York, Councillor Martin Rowley, at York City Hall to discuss China–UK relations and local cooperation.

Consul General Tang congratulated Lord Mayor Rowley on his assumption of office and noted York's rich history as a significant political, cultural and commercial hub in the UK, which is now actively transforming into a center for technology and creative industries. In recent years, positive outcomes have achieved in bilateral cooperation across various fields between the two sides. With the 10th anniversary of the sister-city relationship between Nanjing and York approaching next year, the Consulate General stands ready to enhance communication with York City Council to further advance cooperation in all areas, including the sister-city ties. Consul General Tang also wished Lord Mayor Rowley a productive upcoming visit to China.

Lord Mayor Rowley welcomed Consul General Tang's visit, reaffirming York City Council's strong commitment to developing relations with China. He plans to lead a delegation from the York Tourism Board and local businesses to visit Nanjing and other cities in September this year, and looks forward to achieving more concrete results in tourism, trade, and other areas of cooperation, thereby helping to elevate the sister-city relationship between York and Nanjing to new heights in the new era.
