“Chinese Red”Shines over British Football Stadium

On February 7, the Chinese Consulate General in Manchester joined hands with Stockport County Football Club to host a Chinese New Year celebration during the League One match between Stockport County and Leyton Orient F.C. at Stockport’s home ground. Consul General Tang Rui and President of Stockport County F.C. Mr. Steve Bellis attended the event, which was participated in by more than 10,000 spectators.

On the day of the event, the stadium was adorned with ten traditional Chinese red lanterns, creating a festive atmosphere filled with the spirit of the Chinese New Year. Consul General Tang introduced the culture and traditions of the Spring Festival and extended his sincere holiday greetings. Before the match and during halftime, cultural performances featuring lion dances, Tai Chi and traditional Chinese folk music captivated the audience, offering them an opportunity to experience the unique charm of Chinese culture at close range. Many British attendees remarked that the vibrant “China Red” had become the most beautiful sight on the British football field in early spring.

As part of the series of special events celebrating the Chinese New Year across the consular district, the celebration aimed to showcase the rich traditions of the Spring Festival and enhance the British public’s understanding and appreciation of China.
