On 11 February, Consul General Tang Rui met with the Mayor of Rochdale, Councillor Janet Emsley, at the Rochdale Town Hall. The two sides had an in-depth exchange of views on China-UK relations and subnational co-operation.

Consul General Tang noted that Rochdale is the birthplace of the modern co-operative movement, and the founding of the Rochdale Society of Equitable Pioneers reflects the wisdom and spirit of the British working class. Rochdale is now committed to developing business and innovation industries, with a particular focus on building the "Atom Valley" innovation cluster. The two sides could strengthen communication and coordination to explore cooperation opportunities in various fields, contributing to common development.

Mayor Emsley welcomed Consul General Tang’s visit and expressed that, as one of the ten boroughs of Greater Manchester, Rochdale looks forward to developing relations with China and to working with the Consulate General to deepen cooperation in areas such as economy and trade, science and technology, education, and tourism, ultimately bringing tangible benefits to the peoples of both sides.

Following the meeting, Consul General Tang toured the Rochdale Town Hall accompanied by Mayor Emsley.
