Consul General Zheng Xiyuan Meets with Sir Alan Langlands

On Sept. 15, 2018, Mr. Zheng Xiyuan, Consul General of the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Manchester, met Sir Alan Langlands, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Leeds. Also present at the meeting were Professor Yu Haisui, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Frank Finlay, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures, and Ms. Julia Wang, official of International Programme.

 
Sir Alan Langlands briefed Mr. Zheng of the cooperation between the University of Leeds and cities such as Hangzhou, as well as universities in China.

Mr. Zheng expressed his appreciation of the University for its active cultural exchange and cooperation in running schools in China. He asked detailed questions about the learning and living conditions of Chinese students at the University. He stressed that it was at the start of a new academic year and there are more than 3,000 Chinese students at the University. It is the priority of the Consulate-general to ensure the Chinese student's safety. The Consulate-general undertakes to work with the University to develop a safer environment for overseas students.

The University of Leeds is the second largest institution of higher education in the UK. It is a founding member of the Russell Group and one of the six famous "Red Brick Universities" in the UK. The University offers a full range of specialties, including engineering, science, medicine, business, education, law, languages, humanities, arts and interdisciplinary studies. The research and teaching directions cover vast majority of social and natural sciences.

Mr. Zheng was in the company of Consul Lyu Xiaomei, Consul Liu Min and Consul Chen Xuefeng at the meeting.
