To promote China-UK relations has been universally acknowledged by both countries, which befits not just the fundamental interests of both peoples, but also the developing trend of our times and the expectations of the international community. Mutually beneficial cooperation between China and UK benefits not just both countries and peoples, but also contributes to safeguarding world peace and stability and promoting world development and prosperity.

The North of England is the cradle of British industrial revolution, which boasts advanced industrial traditions and immense innovative power. Chinese President Xi Jinping's successful visit to the UK in 2015 with Manchester being one leg of his trip launched a 'golden era' in bilateral relations and gave unprecedented impetus to the development of omni-directional, multilevel and wide-range links between the North of England and China and facilitated the accelerated development of China-UK sub-national exchanges and cooperation.

Our consular areas cover the counties of Greater Manchester, Merseyside, Lancashire, Tyne and Wear, North Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire, Durham and Derbyshire. The mission of the Consulate General is to promote the friendly exchanges between the Chinese people and the British people, boost the substantial cooperation in various areas including politics, economy and trade, science, education, culture, and twinning cities. Our responsibilities also include issuing travel documents and visas, dealing with the notarization and legalization of documents, providing consular assistance to Chinese nationals and safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests in the consular areas. Since the founding of our Consulate General in 1986, we have made active endeavors to safeguard the lawful rights of Chinese citizens in the consular areas, to strengthen ties between China and our consular areas, to encourage local Chinese community to serve as bridge adding momentum to the development of bilateral relations in the new era and to help Chinese companies strengthen their foothold in the UK. We will continue to adhere to the people-oriented foreign policy and continuously improve our work always remaining true to our original aspirations.
