On July 8, Consul General Tang Rui of the People's Republic of China in Manchester attended a reception hosted by the Consulate General to express gratitude to the builders of the Streamside Chinese Garden project. The event was attended by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant of Greater Manchester, Mr. Yang Juwen, who also serves as Chairman of the Streamside Chinese Garden Working Committee; the entire project construction team from Yangzhou; and representatives from Salford City and the Royal Horticultural Society.

Consul General Tang Rui paid tribute to and expressed his appreciation for the Yangzhou construction team, who had worked diligently on the project site for over three months. He noted that classical Chinese gardens are a treasure of Chinese civilization. Through the meticulous placement of every brick and tile and the precise fitting of every mortise and tenon, the Chinese builders have brought an authentic classical garden to Salford, Greater Manchester. This garden, he said, serves as an important window for local residents to experience Chinese culture up close and makes a positive contribution to people-to-people and cultural exchanges between China and the UK.

The Streamside Chinese Garden project was launched in 2019 and is modeled after the classical gardens of Yangzhou. Once completed, it will become the largest and most comprehensive classical Chinese garden in Europe.
