On 19 May, Consul General Tang Rui of the People’s Republic of China in Manchester attended the opening of the themed art exhibition “Light of Encoding: Civilization Coding and Algorithmic Dialogue”, co-hosted by Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication and the Confucius Institute at the University of Liverpool. Also present were William Shortall, Lord Mayor of Liverpool, Tian Zhongli, President of Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication, together with teachers, students and local residents.

Consul General Tang Rui noted that both China and the UK boast profound histories and splendid cultures, serving as key representatives of Eastern and Western civilizations. Civilizations become richer through exchange and more vibrant through mutual learning. The exhibition, which captures contemporary imagery through light, inherits millennia of cultural heritage through paper, and builds bridges for dialogue through digital algorithms, stands as a vivid example of exchange and mutual learning between Eastern and Western civilizations. It also serves as a robust platform for cultural and educational exchanges between Chinese and British universities and cities, embodying the profound vision of diverse civilizations coexisting in harmony.
Lord Mayor William Shortall emphasized that cultural and educational exchanges between China and the UK have deep roots and connect the two peoples. He expressed his anticipation that the event would mark a new starting point for deepening practical cooperation between Liverpool and China across various fields, fostering greater mutual understanding and friendship between the two peoples.
President Tian Zhongli stated that the exhibition, which blends traditional cultural heritage with digital technology, has created a new platform for exchanges between Chinese and British universities. Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication will leverage its academic strengths to continue supporting dialogue between civilizations, contributing to the deepening of China-UK educational and cultural cooperation.
