On 2 April, Consul General Tang Rui attended, upon invitation, a welcome dinner hosted by the City of Salford in Greater Manchester for the construction team of the Chinese Streamside Garden project. Among the attendees were Deputy City Mayor of Salford, Councillor Jack Youd; Deputy Secretary-General of the China Flower Association, Mr. Peng Hongming; and representatives of the construction team from Yangzhou.
Consul General Tang noted that with the support of the China Flower Association and the Yangzhou Municipal Government, significant progress has been made in the construction of the Chinese Streamside Garden. He expressed his hope that the garden would be completed as scheduled in September, marking a timely contribution to the formal signing of the sister-city agreement between Yangzhou and Salford, and helping to further people to people and cultural exchanges and friendly relations between China and the UK. Deputy Mayor Councillor Jack Youd noted that this year marks the centenary of the City of Salford. The completion of the Chinese Streamside Garden is not only the best gift from the people of China, but will also further enhance friendly cooperation between the two sides in various fields.
The Chinese Streamside Garden project was launched in 2019. Designed based on the classical gardens of Yangzhou, it is set to become the largest and most complete classical Chinese garden in Europe upon completion.
