Question: During China's Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council, the UK again made unfounded accusations against China on issues related to Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong. What is your comment?
Embassy Spokesperson: Regarding the wrongful remarks made by the UK side during China's Universal Periodic Review at the Human Rights Council on 23 January, the Chinese delegation made a comprehensive response there and then, solemnly refuting the relevant slanderous remarks.
The UK's so-called "concerns" on issues related to Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong are simply the same old rhetoric, which misrepresent the facts, confuse right and wrong, and are full of ideological biases. China has responded to such rhetoric many times.
The Chinese people have the biggest say on China’s human rights situation. The Chinese government attaches great importance to the promotion and protection of human rights, and follows a people-centered philosophy. We have successfully found a path for human rights development that is in line with our national conditions, and made world-renowned achievements. China's human rights situation is at its best in history. This is a fact that anyone without bias will recognise.
The UK's own human rights record is not something it can be proud of. It faces massive human rights violations at home and has a poor record abroad. This is well known to the whole world. The UK should do some self-reflection, improve its own human rights situation, stop hypocrisy and double standards, and stop politicising human rights issues.
